The Rules of the Room, Then the Legs Wake Up

The room set for leg work — wide buffers, every ankle visible from the middlePair 1Pair 2Pair 3A full buffer between pairs — the coach sees every ankle

Setup: Everyone seated in front of the whiteboard first — the rules get written up and said aloud before a single rep. Then staggered lines for movement.

How it works: Write the four rules and make the room repeat them back: one, no heel hooks tonight — not for anyone, whatever you train elsewhere. Two, tap to position, not pain — caught means tap, before anything tightens. Three, catch and release — every finish stops at first tension and lets go. Four, never spin out of a locked position — clear it technically at half speed or tap. Then wake the legs: shrimps, leg pummels lying on the back in pairs of lines, hip escapes, and seated leg-triangle shapes closed and opened slowly, one length each, twice.

What to say

  • Rules first, technique second — a leg-lock culture is built on the boring part.
  • Leg pummels: knees bend and swim like arms in a pummel — slow circles, no kicking.
  • Anyone who cannot say the four rules back does not drill tonight — say it warmly, mean it completely.

Easier

Movement lengths at half distance; leg pummels solo instead of paired.

Harder

Leg pummel lines with eyes closed for feel — control without sight is tonight's real skill.
