Kit: Gloves and wraps for all, one pair of focus pads per pair, timer or bell. Partner feeds are to the gloves and the air beside the head only — this is a timing night, not a contact night.
Sharpen the Eyes
Setup: Wraps on, straight into pairs — experienced rooms warm up better with a partner than a playlist of exercises.
How it works: Round one: the gap game at honest speed — leader moves, partner holds the exact range, swap at ninety seconds. Round two: reaction taps — both in stance at range, either may try one open-hand tap to the partner's glove; the defence is a small withdrawal or catch, nothing else. Two minutes, running score. The warm-up's real job is switching on the reading eyes tonight's whole session runs on.
Rounds: 2 × 2 min, 30s rest
What to say
- “Watch the chest, catch the shoulders — punches announce themselves a frame early if you are looking at the right place.”
- “Move a fist-width, not a postcode — over-reacting is how counter-punchers get countered.”
- “Stay in range on purpose — tonight lives at the distance most people flinch away from.”
Easier
Gap game only, both rounds.
Harder
Reaction taps go double — either hand, and fakes allowed.
