Kit: Gum shields mandatory — no gum shield, no partner work, no exceptions. Headgear on for all ring rounds (club policy applies; fit-checked by a coach). 16oz gloves for all partner work, wraps underneath, one pair of focus pads per floor pair, a ring or matted square, timer or bell.

Warm-up10 min

Warm Body, Calm Head

Setup: Wraps on, kit checks running as people arrive: gum shields shown to a coach, headgear tried and adjusted now, not at the ring steps. The second coach handles kit while you run the floor.

How it works: Two shadow rounds and a defence round: round one, feet and straight punches, half speed rising; round two, full combinations with slips and rolls woven in; round three in pairs — the gap game, then thirty seconds each of slow mirror jabs with the partner catching. Keep the volume of the room low on purpose; the tone you set in the warm-up is the tone the contact inherits.

Rounds: 3 × 2 min, 30s rest

What to say

  • Tonight is a school night, not a fight night — say it now and the night goes right.
  • Warm the neck properly — slow circles, both ways; contact nights earn careful necks.
  • Breathe everywhere — held breath is the first sign of a nervous boxer, so coach the exhale from minute one.

Easier

Rounds at half speed with the partner round as catches only.

Harder

Round two on the coach's called defences — slip, roll, catch called at random.
